Michael Dewey Coleman was working as a delivery driver for a third-party company that provides services to Amazon when he arrived at Emerald Dental in Lakewood after three o'clock in the afternoon. Coleman was wearing an Amazon uniform and carrying a package when he entered the dental office to make what appeared to be a routine delivery.
According to police reports, Coleman was directed to place the package in a room next to the front desk where a female employee was sitting. After placing the packages, Coleman approached the victim with his phone out, leading her to believe he needed her signature for the delivery. Police stated that Coleman then put his phone away and suddenly grabbed both sides of the victim's head with his hands, pulled her head toward him and attempted to kiss her.
The victim responded by placing both hands in front of her face to block Coleman and hit his face. Witnesses reported hearing screaming and cries for help coming from the front desk area. One witness described seeing Coleman, identified as wearing a blue Amazon vest, pulling at the female employee's dress.
Dr. Stephanie Paswaters, other staff members, and patients who were in the office at the time intervened in the attack. The group managed to tackle Coleman and pin him to the floor, restraining him until police arrived at approximately three zero eight in the afternoon.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Coleman being held down by the dental office staff and patients. Police noted that Coleman displayed behavior suggesting he was in an altered state of mind, describing him as growling and sweating. Coleman initially believed he was in Texas and could not recall the events, though he became more coherent during the investigation.
Coleman was arrested and charged with sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment. Bond was set at fifty thousand dollars. Amazon confirmed that Coleman was employed by a third-party delivery service partner and stated he is no longer delivering packages to Amazon customers.
